Do it yourself hair

Haz tu propio cabello y maquillaje

When considering your makeup appointments, stick to a few simple items and save money! Don’t spend tons of money on items that are not practical. Go to your local store that carries affordable brands of makeup and make get organized. Stores like a CVS or Wal-Mart will do. Start by purchasing a makeup case and here’s what should go in it:

1. A set of makeup brushes from CVS.

They even make a travel set that will be just perfect. I’ve used mine for the last 3 years!

2. A moisturizer.

Look for one with SPF so that you can use it year-round. Florida girls need it and most moisturizers offer SPF!

3. Concealer!

This will make you look like you are well-rested and fresh. Sleeping Beauty will be no competition, ladies!

4. Foundation.

Select one that is one shade darker if you’re doing a self-tanning session. Your neck tends to be a bit darker than your face. Remember…blend, blend, blend!

5. A powder or bronzer.

This will set your look for the evening. Don’t get crazy -just dust it on to add a bit of a tan or to even out your completion.

6. Blush.

Stick to a blush that is rosy for a glow-like quality. Dark colors always make you look muddy. Choose a dualcolored one so that you have options when mixing colors.

7. Brown eye liner.

Never buy black -it always looks too dark and unnatural. You want to make it seem like you are not wearing makeup. Duh!

8. A fabu eye shadow.

This is where I’d put my money. Go to a major department store and get a MAC pigment that you can use dry or wet. They’re more intense, but they’re perfect for blending.

9. Mascara.

Everyone knows about the “pink mascara”. It’s the number one seller and I love it! Only $5.98 and I swear by it. If you’re a crier, then get the waterproof stuff.

10. A Lip gloss.

Try a long-lasting gloss. It’s great for a subtle look and a fresh bright smile. This translucent option is better than thick lipsticks that are never the right shade!

11. Lashes and glue.

#1 transformation item! Look like a super model in minutes. Lashes are what make your eyes pop in pictures. Don’t get the tarantulas… stick ones that build on your already glamorous windows!

So pack up your tiny treasures and practice for the big day. You don’t need a pro; do your own makeup! You can even practice till it’s perfect. Put some money toward other things for the party! Pick out this season’s must-haves and look super fresh and beautiful.
Hair stylist not in the budget? Well, here are two sure ways to do your hair and that of those on your court.

For you:

Start by putting your hair half up, and half down. Pinch and twist your half up portion and give it a push forward. Secure with some hair pins and spray for hold. This will give you a little height in the front. Next put the rest of your hair in a pony tail and part it in sections. Make rolls in your hair as if you have imaginary rollers and secure will some hair pins. If this sounds too complicated, then lose the pony tail and French twist the back. Finish it with a rhinestone hair piece or just keep it simple.

For your court:

Start off by putting your hair in hot rollers. Next spray your hair with long lasting hair spray. Run your fi ngers through your hair and separate the curls. Later, put your hair half up/half down. Pinch and twist your half up portion and give it a push forward. Secure with hair pins. Sweep your hair to one side and secure with a hair band. Finally, wrap a small amount of hair around the hair band and VOILA! ¡Gratis! * — CBP

Hair Dos and Don’ts

Qué hacer y no hacer con tu cabello

Ok, last minute Lucy! It’s the night before your practice hair appointment and you still don’t know what you want! Don’t worry - you won’t the first or the last girl in this same predicament. Let me guess, it was last on your list. You made the appointment, but you have no idea what to do with your locks. Here’s where the guide comes in handy.

Going for some height

Let’s start with an up-do versus your down-do. If you are going for some height, then I’d select an up-do. Pulling your hair up will give you a few inches. This would also look elegant with a dress halter. Having your hair up is a great way to extend your neckline. Now, if you are significantly taller than your dance partner, then your hair down would be a lovely choice. This is also a perfect choice with someone with a strapless dress. Your dress is already giving you a sense of openness, so having your hair down would frame your shoulders nicely.

What shape is your face?

The shape of your face is a great factor when making a hair style choice. Girls with round faces should have straight hair pieces around their face. This will help to elongate their face.
Those girls with slender faces should have curls to give there face a more rounded look. Don’t forget those pesky little bangs. Bangs are a great way to frame your face. If swooped to the side, they can give a sweet look to your do. Bangs pulled back are nice for those with smaller foreheads, but can also help camouflage a “fivehead” in a heartbeat. Whatever you do, if you decide to pull your bangs back, have your stylist use super hold spray.

Decade do’s

Always look to see if your dress is decade inspired. If it’s 20’s, go with pin curl. If you want an old-school look like your Mamá, then try to replicate a Charlie’s Angel 70’s feel. Hollywood stars are always bringing back the oldies - and so can you. Hair bling options. Add sparkle to your hair with rhinestone pins. Some rhinestones are available in large combs, some on single pins. Hair jewels will add sparkle in your hair and can come in a range of prices. If you are on a budget, then spray glitter will give you the twinkle you need.

Leave room for the tiara

Bring your tiara to your hair appointment! This will help determine where your curls or hair should be placed. This is a guide for your stylist and can make or break your hair selection.

Take pictures

Remember to take pictures of your practice hair and later critique your selection. Bigger hair is better (especially will fuller dresses), so don’t freak. Also, don’t argue with your stylist about trimming your hair. Dead ends look horrible (especially when your hair is down). You want your hair to look healthy and shiny, so a hair treatment wouldn’t hurt either. Practice makes perfect - so try a couple of styles until you feel like a princess!
